Flebotomus serranus Damasceno and Arouck 1949 , 843 (male). Type-locality: Brazil, Pará, Serra de Piriabas.

Phlebotomus guayasi Rodríguez 1956 , 76 (male and female). Type-locality: Ecuador, Guayas; Fairchild and Hertig 1961, 237 (as synonym of Ph. serranus ).

Lutzomyia serrana (Damasceno and Arouck) : Young and Duncan 1994, 177 (revision, keys, distribution); Ibáñez-Bernal 1999, 103 (diagnosis, references, distribution).

Ibáñez-Bernal et al. (2006) first recorded this species for the state of Veracruz from collections made in El Tacahuite (Municipality of Juchique de Ferrer), and in El Zapotal (Municipality of Colipa). Godinez-Alvarez and Ibáñez-Bernal (2010) reported this species from El Nigromante (Municipality of Playa Vicente). The following record is a new municipality record in Veracruz.
