Type species (here designated): Omaloplia (Emphania) conspurcata Blanchard, 1850 .
First subsequently included nominal species: The name Comaserica was made available ( ICZN 1999, Art. 12.1) by Brenske (1897) in the key to the genera, without any nominal species included. The following species were first subsequently included in the genus by Brenske (1899): Comaserica bouvieri Brenske, 1899 ; Omaloplia (Emphania) conspurcata Blanchard, 1850 ; Serica crinita Burmeister, 1855 ; Comaserica dapsilis Brenske, 1899 ; Comaserica decens Brenske, 1899 ; Omaloplia (Emphania) fuliginosa Blanchard, 1850 ; Homaloplia granulipennis Fairmaire, 1897 ; Omaloplia (Emphania) irrorata Blanchard, 1850 ; Homaloplia picticollis Fairmaire, 1897 ; Omaloplia (Emphania) setosicollis Blanchard, 1850 ; Omaloplia (Emphania) setosipennis Blanchard, 1850 ; Comaserica simillima Brenske, 1899 ; and Serica tesselata Klug, 1832 .
Type material examined ( Comaserica conspurcata [ Blanchard, 1850]): Lectotype (here designated): ɗ „Museum Paris Madagascar Deyrolle 1854 / 40 54 / O. conspurcata Cat. Mus. Madagascar / O. conspurcata Madagascar “ ( MNHN). Paralectotype: 1 ɗ „Museum Paris Madagascar Deyrolle 1854 / 40 54 / Omlaoplia conspurcata Blanch. ex. typis / Brsk. IV. 98 vid. / Omal. conspurcata “ ( MNHN, abdomen lacking).
Remarks: Comaserica conspurcata was chosen as type species of Comaserica since it is one the most common Comaserica species and the species is present also in most major museum collections.
