Allokotarsa Péringuey, 1904: 36 ; Machatschke 1959: 744.
Type species (here designated): Allokotarsa clypeata Péringuey, 1904 .
Originally included nominal species: Allokotarsa clypeata Péringuey, 1904 and Allokotarsa rotundicollis Péringuey, 1904 .
Type material examined ( Allokotarsa clypeata Péringuey, 1904 ): Lectotype (here designated): ɗ “Ovampo L. Eriksson. 1890-1891. / Allokotarsa clypeata Type Py / Type SAM / Ent 3/33” ( SAMC). Paralectotype: 1 ɗ "Vryburg [?] Jones OH / Allokotarsa clypeata ɗ Type Py / Allokotarsa clypeata Per. det. L. Péringuey A.R.I. Pretoria / " Type Allokotarsa clypeata Péringuey, 1904 / SANC TYPE TYPS 00165" ( SANC).
Remarks: Although, Allokotarsa rotundicollis was first listed by Péringuey (1904: 37) I decided that it is more appropriate to designate the second species, Allokotarsa clypeata , as the type since it has more representative characters for the genus. For example, A. clypeata does not have the obsolete posterior angles of pronotum which is an autapomorphy of A. rotundicollis .
