Type locality. Perou, Dr. Junin, 20 km route Jauja–Tarma, 4000 m.
Examined material. HT ♂ (CMa at MRSN); 7 PTT ♂ and 2 PTT ♀ (CMa, CSt); 2 ♂ and 1 ♀ (CSt, CMa). Actually, 3 PTT ♂ and 1 PT ♀ (CMa), as well as 1 PT ♂ and 1 PT ♀ (CSt) belong to B. nigritulus , which is easily distinguished by its aedeagus. TS of B. minor : HT ♂ (CMa at MRSN); 30 PTT ♂ and 11 PTT ♀ (CMa, CSt). TS of Ogmopleura angularis Straneo, 1993 [nec Straneo, 1985]: HT ♂ (CMa at MRSN); 11 PTT ♂ and 2 PTT ♀ (CMa, CSt).
Note. Blennidus rectangulus shows some variability in the morphology of pronotum and of apical blade of median lobe of aedeagus, and as a result Straneo (1993) described two additional species ( B. minor and B. angularis ), here synonymized with B. rectangulus . Actually, in lateral view the median lobe of aedeagus shows a morphological constancy that confirms the identity of the three taxa.
Distribution. Blennidus rectangulus is currently recorded only from Depts. Junin and Huancavelica.
Habitat. The altitude data reported on the labels (about 4,000 m a.s.l.) suggest a preference of this species for the Andean grasslands.
