Diagnosis. The male genitalia are similar to those of H. cuscutae Bradley, 1968 , with the cucullus gradually broadened to an obtusely rounded apex and two large ventral spines. Herpystis arcisaccula can be distinguished by the costa of the valva obtusely produced before the middle in the male genitalia and the antrum inverted trapezoidal in the female genitalia. In H. cuscutae , the costa is not produced and the antrum is almost uniformly narrow ( Bradley 1968: 615, fig. 1, 2). This species is also similar to H. orthocera , sp. nov. in the male genitalia, but can be distinguished by the sacculus which is narrow, slightly convex and not angled ventroapically, the ovate ostium bursae which is wider than long, and the antrum that is approximately 0.33 the length of the ductus bursae. In H. orthocera , sp. nov., the sacculus is wide and right angled ventroapically, the subrectangular ostium bursae is longer than wide, and the antrum is approximately 0.17 the length of the ductus bursae.

Description. Adult ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1‒5 ). Vertex grayish yellow or grayish white, mixed with grayish brown, frons grayish brown or grayish white. Antenna grayish yellow, with blackish brown ring on each flagellomere. Labial palpus with first and second segments blackish brown mixed with grayish yellow; second segment expanded distally; third segment white, or white mixed with grayish brown, short and thin, slightly drooping. Patagium brown; thorax grayish yellow or grayish white, mixed with dark brown; tegula with basal half dark brown, distal half grayish yellow or grayish white. Foreleg blackish brown, grayish white at middle and apex of tibia, as well as at apex of first, second and fifth tarsomeres; midleg blackish brown, grayish white at middle and apex of tibia, as well as at apex of first to third and fifth tarsomeres; hindleg grayish white, second to fifth tarsomeres dark brown except grayish white at apex.

Wingspan 6.5‒10.0 mm. Forewing ground color grayish white or grayish yellow, mixed with dark brown and leaden gray, part scales tipped with grayish yellow or yellowish white; costa blackish brown, with nine pairs of strigulae: basal three pairs brown or grayish brown, strigulae four and five leaden gray, or grayish yellow with leaden gray short striae, distal four pairs yellowish white, striae below distal four pairs leaden gray mixed with yellowish brown, obliquely outward and confluent to distal 0.25 of R 5; blackish brown fascia extending from basal 0.33 of costa to middle of discal cell, then broadened and obliquely inward to basal 0.33 of dorsum, indicating edge of basal patch; median fascia short, extending to below distal 0.2 of upper margin of discal cell, forming a subtrapezoidal blackish brown spot at middle of costa; blackish brown dash beyond outer margin of discal cell; tornal spot blackish brown, mixed with yellowish brown or yellowish white, subtriangular, extending along inner margin of ocellus to basal 0.33 of CuA 1; ocellus leaden gray, with a transverse blackish brown stripe in middle narrowed to tornus, its inner margin with anterior angle extending to middle of R 4; cilia grayish brown mixed with grayish white, subbasal line blackish brown. Hindwing and cilia gray.

Male genitalia ( Fig. 8 View FIGURES 6‒10 ): Tegumen subrectangular, truncate on posterior margin. Socius approximately half length of tegumen, with sparse short setae. Valva narrowly elongate, with basal excavation approximately 0.33 length of valva; costa obtusely produced before middle; sacculus uniformly narrow, slightly convex, with sparse setae from base to near apex, followed by several short spines distally; neck approximately half maximum width of cucullus; cucullus elongate, approximately 1.5 times length of sacculus, gradually broadened to obtusely rounded apex, with a cluster of short spines beyond neck, with ventral large spine set at basal 0.25 and before apex respectively. Phallus approximately 0.66 length of valva; cornuti consisting of numerous deciduous seta-like needles and two thick spines.

Female genitalia ( Fig. 12 View FIGURES 11‒14 ): Sternite VII divided into two subtriangular lateral sclerites connected below ostium bursae, with spinous hump on anterior margin at each side of ostium bursae. Ostium bursae situated in middle of sternite VII, large and ovate, wider than long, densely spinous along lateral margins, its posterior margin sclerotized and spinulose, forming a narrow band representing lamella postvaginalis. Antrum inverted trapezoidal, very large, approximately 0.33 length of ductus bursae; colliculum running from middle to basal 0.25 of ductus bursae; ductus bursae nearly equal length to corpus bursae. Corpus bursae ovate; two signa spiniform, with rounded basal plate; appendix bursae and corpus bursae nearly equal in size; ductus seminalis originating from base of appendix bursae. Sternite VI with posterior margin concave and sclerotized medially ( Fig. 12a View FIGURES 11‒14 ).

Variation. The phallus has some micro serrations on distal 0.33 ( Fig. 8a View FIGURES 6‒10 ) in some specimens from Hainan Province.

Distribution. China (Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hong Kong, Yunnan).

Etymology. The specific epithet is derived from the Latin prefixs arci - and the sacculus, referring to the slightly convex sacculus in the male genitalia.
