Bryopsis corticulans Setchell in Collins, Holden & Setchell (1899: 626).

TAXONOMIC STATUS: Since its initial description has not reviewed the type material only Smith (1944) selected the type locality, but it is not known a picture of the type material According to Kraft (2000) this species is clearly delimited of Bryopsis palliolatis Kraft & A.J.K. Millar but share the same rhizoidal process. There is no evidence that this author comparatively reviewed the holotype of both plants.

TAXONOMIC STATUS: According to Pedroche et al. (2005) and Guiry & Guiry (2014) this name is currently valid; however no one has recently reviewed the taxonomic status.

Bryopsis hypnoides J.V. Lamourox (1809: 333, 135).

TAXONOMIC STATUS: According to Kraft (2000: 627) this species is a synonym of B. palliolatis because shares the same rhizoidal process. There is no evidence that this author comparatively review the holotype of both plants and thus, legal change can not be made. Also, Norris (2010) and Guiry & Guiry (2014) recognize both (this) species as taxonomicaly valid.

TAXONOMIC STATUS: According to Norris (2010) and Guiry & Guiry (2014) this name is currently valid.

RECORDS IN THE GULF OF CALIFORNIA: ND ( Huerta-Múzquiz 1978: 338, González-González et al. 1996: 126). Isla Tortuga, Isla Cholla, Isla Ildefonso, Bahía Agua Verde and Puerto Escondido ( Dawson 1959: 6–14), Southern Gulf ( Dawson1961: 381, Norris 2010: 79). Bryopsis pennata J.V. Lamouroux (1809: 333) .

TAXONOMIC STATUS: Dawson (1959) suggests that the records under B. pennata and Bryopsis pennatula J. Agardh could represent the same plant. Is important to clarify since B. pennatula is a heterotypic synonym of Bryopsis pennata var. minor J. Agard because they have the same holotype ( Silva et al. 1996: 807). Using the historically significant material could clarify this situation. Also, see comments under B. pennatula and B. pennata var. minor .

TAXONOMIC STATUS: According to Norris (2010) and Guiry & Guiry (2014) this name is currently valid. Also, see comments under B. pennatula and B. pennata .

Bryopsis plumosa var. pennata (Lamouroux) Borgesen (1911: 147) .

TAXONOMIC STATUS: Dawson (1944: 212) said that their specimens fit the description presented but show no specific figures or descriptions. Silva et al. (1996: 807) cite this species as a heterotypic synonym of B. pennata but no evidence comparatively evaluates the type and, therefore, requires a taxonomic reassessment. Norris (2010) and Guiry & Guiry (2015) currently considered this species as a synonym of B. pennata , see comments under that name.
