Derbesia Solier (1846: 452) View in CoL
Derbesia hollenbergii W.R. Taylor (1945: 75–76) .
TAXONOMIC STATUS: According to Pedroche et al. (2005) and Guiry & Guiry (2014) this name is currently valid; however the holotype has not been evaluated comparatively with modern collections to segregate this species from others within the genus.
RECORDS IN THE GULF OF CALIFORNIA: ND ( González-González et al. 1996: 135), Isla Cholla and El Solitario ( Dawson 1959: 6–14), Isla Carmén ( Dawson 1961: 380). Unpublished data: Castillo-Álvarez (1990: 70, table 1).
Derbesia marina (Lyngbye) Solier (1846: 453) .
TAXONOMIC STATUS: Kraft (2000: 621) mentioned that this species has been used in many regions of the world, but there are inconsistencies in the diacritic traits considered (how) to discriminate (delineate) between D. marina and other species. A regional assessment is required. According to Norris (2010) and Guiry & Guiry (2015) this particular name is currently taxonomicaly valid. See comments under the name Halicystis oval (Lyngbye) Areschoug.
RECORDS IN THE GULF OF CALIFORNIA: Calerita ( Rodríguez-Morales & Siqueiros-Beltrones 1999: 22), Bahía de Los Angeles ( Pacheco-Ruíz & Zertuche-González 1996b: 432), Cabo Pulmo-Los Frailes ( Anaya-Reyna & Riosmena-Rodríguez 1996: 904), Bahía de La Paz ( Huerta-Múzquiz & Mendoza-González 1985: 44, Riosmena-Rodríguez & Paúl-Chávez 1997: 67), Bahía Concepción ( Mateo-Cid et al. 1993: 52), Bahía de Banderas, Jalisco-Nayarit ( Serviere-Zaragoza et al. 1993: 482, Serviere-Zaragoza et al. 1998: 169); Bahía del Rincón ( Riosmena-Rodríguez et al. 2005: 13), Bahía de Santa Clara ( Aguilar-Rosas et al. 2000b: 133, Norris 2010: 83–84). Unpublished data: Castillo-Álvarez (1990: 71 -table 1), Saad-Navarro (1997: XX), Vázquez-Borja (1999: table 1, 2).
Derbesia turbinata M.A. Howe & Hoyt (1916: 106) .
TAXONOMIC STATUS: Norris (2010) mention that D. turbinata is equal to the other species of the genus reported from the Gulf of California. Morphological and molecular investigation are needed. According to Pedroche et al. (2005) and Guiry & Guiry (2014) this particular name is currently valid.
RECORDS IN THE GULF OF CALIFORNIA: ND ( González-González et al. 1996: 135), Las Ánimas ( Dawson 1966b: 55, Norris & Bucher 1976: 4), Northern Gulf ( Norris 2010: 83). Unpublished data: Castillo-Álvarez (1990: 72, table1).
