Poriptus luctans Stål, 1861: 143 ; Lethierry & Severin 1893: 125 (cat.); Kirkaldy 1909: 62 (cat.).
Description. Narrowly oval, light brown to ochraceous specimens. Antennal segment III not surpassing apex of head. Humeri directed anterolaterally or anteriorly, at acute angle with anterolateral margins of pronotum. Pronotum with pale, calloused, longitudinal stripe, less punctured than remaining area of disk.
Male genitalia (figs. 5–7, 12, 17–19). Parameres very wide distally, bordered in black (figs. 3, 12). Lateral processes of dorsal rim almost as broad distally as parameres, also bordered in black (figs. 5, 6). Proctiger trapezoidal, wider basally. Ventral rim trisinuate, median third markedly convex (fig. 7).

Comments. Poriptus luctans is widely distributed throughout South America, in the Amazonian, Chacoan, and Parana subregions ( Morrone 2006). Although the genital morphology is quite constant, this species varies remarkably on humeral development. Specimens from southern Brazil and Argentina have much longer and sharper humeri, which are as long as the anterolateral margin. In northern specimens, humeri are about half the length of the anterolateral margin.
