( Figs. 1 View FIGURE 1 , 8–10 View FIGURES 2 – 10 , 13 View FIGURES 11 – 13 , 20–22 View FIGURES 14 – 22 , 25 View FIGURES 23 – 25 , 28 View FIGURES 26 – 28 )
Etymology: the species is named for the type locality. Type locality: Castara Bay, Trinidad and Tobago .
Description. Narrowly oval, ochraceous specimens. Antennal segment III not surpassing apex of head. Humeri directed forward, at acute angle with anterolateral margins of pronotum. Pronotum with pale, calloused longitudinal stripe, less punctate than remaining area of disk (fig. 1).
Male genitalia (figs. 8–10, 13, 20–22). Parameres wide distally (figs. 8, 13); posterior apex aposed to process of anterolateral angle. Lateral processes of dorsal rim less broad than parameres distally (figs. 8, 9). Parameres and lateral processes of dorsal rim without black border. Proctiger rectangular, slightly narrower in the middle. Ventral rim trisinuate, markedly convex on median third (fig. 10).
Measurements (n=9). Total length 9.27 (9.02–9.60)±0.18; head length 2.37 (2.34–2.42)±0.02, width 1.43(1.35–1.48)±0.04; eye width 0.30 (0.27–0.33)±0.02; interocular distance 0.83 (0.64–0.90)±0.07; anteocular length 1.63 (1.58–1.68)±0.03; length of antennal segments: I - 0.34 (0.31–0.35)±0.02; II - 0.46 (0.43– 0.51)±0.02; III - 0.59 (0.55–0.62)±0.02; IV - 0.62 (0.59–0.64)±0.02; V - 0.68 (0.64–0.70)±0.03; pronotal length 1.64 (1.60–1.70)±0.03, width 3.32 (3.12–3.55)±0.13; scutellar length 2.60 (2.54–2.73)±0.06, width 1.90 (1.81–1.95)±0.05; abdominal width 3.30 (3.12–3.39)±0.08; corium length 3.70 (3.55–3.86)±0.10.
Female genitalia (figs. 25, 28). Posterior borders of gonocoxites 8 convex; sutural borders markedly divergent at apical third. Laterotergites 9 reaching to about apical third of laterotergites 8 (fig. 25). Gonapophyses 9 with median, subtriangular thickening. Capsula seminalis without process (fig. 28).

Type material. Holotype ♂: TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO , South edge Castara Bay, 19.VIII.1982, J.A. & E. Slater, R.M. Baranowski, R. Clayton, M. Hassey col.; Donation from J.A. Slater Collection ( AMNH). Paratypes: 8 ♂, 8 ♀, same data of holotype.
Comments. Poriptus tobago sp. nov. is similar to P. l u c t a n s in general aspect, differing basically on morphology of genitalia. The islands of Trinidad and Tobago constitute, according to Morrone (2006) a biogeographic province from Northwestern South American dominion, part of the Caribbean subregion. As the type series is restricted to these islands, very close to Venezuelan coast, and the remaining species of the genus are exclusively South American, it is possible that P. tobago is derived from mainland South America populations.
