Liophloeothrips cecidii Ananthakrishnan View in CoL

( Figs. 10 View FIGURES 8 – 16 , 18 View FIGURES 17 – 22 , 29 View FIGURES 23 – 31 )

Liophlaeothrips cecidii Ananthakrishnan 1964: 59 View in CoL –60.

Liophloeothrips cecidii View in CoL was first described in a key couplet to two species ( cecidii View in CoL and vichitravarna View in CoL ), but without any reference to specimens studied. A full species description first appeared in Ananthakrishnan & Jagadish (1969: 41), but without any illustrations, and this description referred to two females and one male, collected from leaf rolls of Morinda, Madras View in CoL , July 1955.

We have studied one male labeled as Holotype. This specimen, labeled by Ananthakrishnan, is presumed to have been used in the original description, but as it was not mentioned in that description it is here formally designated as Lectotype. A female syntype bearing the data indicated by Ananthakrishnan & Jagadish has also been studied.

Specimens studied. Lectotype male (macroptera), India: Tamil Nadu: Madras, wild plant, June 1955, TNA 240. Syntype female (macroptera), India, Tamil Nadu, Madras, leaf rolls of Morinda View in CoL , July 1955. Both specimens are at NPC.

Distribution. India (Tamil Nadu: Madras).
