This species and Zarcosia lemairei n. sp. are remarkable among all Zarcosia species discussed in this work by the morphology of the male head ( Fig. 5 View FIGURE 5 a–c, e–g). In both cases, the head capsule is carved dorsally and possesses a wavy brush of long yellow bristles. This sexually dimorphic trait is reminiscent of cephalic modification in some Scydmaenus species (Scydmanenidae), while these bristles are similar to the trichomes present in Paussinae Carabidae and other inquilines.
Zarcosia palliditarsis (Pic, 1912) may very well be a junior synonym of Euglenus planipennis Motschulsky, 1863 , also from Sri Lanka. The type material of this species is presumably kept in St. Petersburg or in Moscow and I did not manage to locate it. It is not possible on the sole basis of Motschulsky’s description, 1863 to clarify the taxonomic status of this species.
Type locality. Sri Lanka: Kandy .
Distribution. Sri Lanka ( Figure 1 View FIGURE 1 ).
Material examined. Sri Lanka: Kandy (G. E. Bryant) VI.1908 (1 ♂ and 1 ♀ syntype, MNHN; 2 ♂ co-types, 1 ♂ and 2 ♀, BMNH) .
