Zarcosia subglaber Pic, 1952: 5 ; Lectotype, pres. design.: one female specimen labelled « Zarcosia inglaber [sic!] n. sp. », MNHN
Zarcosia subglaber Pic, 1952 : Grzymala, 2016
Type locality. Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City .
Distribution. Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City ( Figure 1 View FIGURE 1 ).
Note on type material: There is no specimen of Zarcosia labelled subglaber from Pic’s collection at the MNHN. There is, however, a single specimen of Zarcosia with multiple labels « Zarcosia inglaber n. sp. » from Pic’s handwritting. This specimen also carries a locality label « Saigon [= Ho Chi Minh city], 5 VI 1950, J. Barbier ». Given that no other Aderidae to date has a species name with the radical *glaber*, it is likely that the name inglaber is a lapsus calami, and that Pic meant subglaber . This hypothesis is reinforced by the original description of subglaber , for 3 reasons. First, the only Zarcosia that Pic described under this genus (rather than under Hylophilus or Xylophilus ) is Zarcosia subglaber . Among all the Zarcosia in Pic’s collection, a single specimen is labelled « Zarcosia » with Pic’s handwriting, the very specimen mentioned above and labeled « Zarcosia inglaber n. sp. ». Second, in his description of Zarcosia subglaber, Pic explicitly indicates that the material was given to him by Jean Barbier, who collected it in Saigon. Finally. Pic writes in his paper « Voisin de lateniger Pic », referring to the similarity between Zarcosia subglaber and « lateniger ». Although I could not find out what « lateniger Pic» is, the specimen labeled « Zarcosia inglaber n. sp. » also carries a label that reads « sp près lateniger » from Pic’s handwriting. Together, these elements unambiguously support that the specimen labeled « Zarcosia inglaber n. sp. » at MNHN was used by Pic for the description of Zarcosia subglaber Pic, 1952 . I design it here as a lectotype and have added a label « Zarcosia subglaber Pic, 1952 , Lectotype ♀, N. Gompel des. 2020 ».
Material examined. Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City (J. Barbier) 5.VI.1950 (1 ♀ lectotype, MNHN) .
