Sesleria coerulans Frivaldszky var. tenerrima Fritsch View in CoL in Baldacci (1896: 652)
≡ Sesleria tenerrima (Fritsch) Hayek (1918: 206) View in CoL
Holotype:— ALBANIA. Përmet: Nimerčka [ Nemerçkë Mountain ], 22 Julio [July] 1894, A. Baldacci 291 ( GZU barcode 000265658!). Figure 9 View FIGURE 9 .
Note:—We examined the material collected on Nemerçkë Mountain by Antonio Baldacci on his famous journeys called “Iter Albanicum”. The only specimen that fully corresponds with the information given in the protologue has been found in GZU herbarium ( GZU 000265658), where Fritsch was a professor at the time of the description. This specimen was collected on 22 nd July 1894 (coll. number 291) during “Iter Albanicum Alterum” on Nemerçkë Mountain—“ In alpinis m. Nimercka distr. Premeti ”. In addition, Fritsch left a short description on the label: “ Foliis angustissimus aristisquae longioribus distincta! ”, the same given later in the protologue: “ Differt a typo tantum foliis angustissimus aristisquae longioribus ” (Fritsch in Baldacci 1896: 652). Fritsch’s note “Unicum specimen!” indicates that this is a unique specimen, therefore we consider it to be the holotype.
Hayek (1918: 206) elevated this taxon to the species level under the name Sesleria tenerrima (Fritsch) Hayek. In this paper he gave an extensive description, citing only the herbarium material collected by Baldacci (no. 149) in Albania in 1896 on one of his later journeys: “ In praeruptis altissimis in Nimercka jugo Karajan versus distr. Pogoni, leg. Baldacci. ” All the specimens collected on 8 th July 1896 corresponding to the location given by Hayek (1918) can be found in several herbaria (K, P, M, WU), where they have been stored as type specimens. However, these specimens were collected during the “Iter Albanicum (Epiroticum) Quatrum” (coll. number 149), in the same year that Fritsch described his variety, and are not part of the original material.
