Serpocaulon wagneri (Mett.) A.R.Sm. View in CoL , Taxon 55(4): 929. 2006.

= Polypodium wagneri Mett., Ann. Sci. Nat., Bot. , sér. 2, (5)2: 255. 1864.

Range:— Costa Rica to Guyana, Bolivia (BE), and Brazil.

Ecology:— Rare in Bolivia, confined to humid forests in Amazonian lowlands at 200 m where it is epiphytic on tree trunks, or crotches of trees, 10 m from ground, and in advanced secondary forests. The Chácobo Indians from the Bolivian portion of the range call this Xëqui Jahëhua (Boom 4380, LPB, NY, US), or Mitaisa (Boom 5050, LPB, NY) ( Sanín et al. 2023).

Notes:— A widespread species, but apparently rare in Bolivia, distinguished by having subulate, dense scales and comparatively narrow blades.

Sanín et al. (2023) listed the following specimens for Bolivia: Beni: Vaca Díez, vicinity of the Chácobo village Alto Ivon, 200 m, 11°45’ S, 66°02’ W, Boom 4380 (LPB, NY*), 5050 (LPB, NY*).
