Amended diagnosis
Antennule 7-segmented with terminal aesthetascs present on fifth to seventh segments. Antenna 6-segmented. Mandible pars molaris protruding. Proximal endite of maxillule with four claws; eight or nine claws present on distal endite. Exopod of thoracopod I to VII 2- to 6-segmented; epipod absent from thoracopod I or I to III; first and second segment of endopod of thoracopods I to V or to VII each with a plumose dorsal seta. Male thoracopod VIII enlarged, twice as long as wide; basipod trapezoidal with one terminal seta; two setae on small endopod; exopod longer than endopod, longer than wide and recurved anteriorly; four lobes present on penial complex: inner lobe, outer lobe, dentate lobe and small lobe; rounded inner lobe completely integrated into the basal region; small lobe independent of inner lobe, with small dorsal teeth; outer lobe twice as long as wide; dentate lobe smaller than inner lobe. Female thoracopod VIII 2-segmented with teeth or spines on first segment; second segment with three long terminal setae. Pleopods absent. Spines on sympod of uropod subequal, distalmost twice as long as rest; endopod with two strong terminal spines, one spinous process and three apical setae; exopod with 7–12 setae.
Type species: Montanabathynella salish, Camacho et al. 2009 .
Other species in the genus: M. pecosensis sp. nov., described herein.
