Pisinna bicincta View in CoL new species (Figs. 1–5)
Description: Shell pupiform, glossy, whorls moderately convex with subsutural depression more visible in early whorls, suture impressed. Protoconch paucispiral (two whorls), orange, domeshaped, sculptured with about 17 spiral lines of minute shallow pits. Teleoconch sculptured with oblique axial cordlets most prominent in body whorl. Two colour bands are present. A broad white subsutural band, and another narrow orange one. Base rounded, usually with the same banding pattern of the teleoconch. Fasciole faintly marked. Aperture ovalpyriform with one weak columellar tooth. Lip thickened, the inner lip pressed to the parietal wall. Umbilicus lacking.
FIGURES: 1–5. Pisinna bicincta n. sp. 1 — holotype (MNRJ 10302), length 1.55 mm; 2 — paratype (IBUFRJ 13294), length 1.20 mm; 3 — paratype (MORG 41070), length 1.30 mm; 4 — protoconch of holotype; 5 — detail of sculpture of the protoconch. Scale bar: figs. 1–3 = 200 m, fig. 4 = 100 m, fig. 5 = 25 m.
Dimensions: Holotype with 3.5 whorls of teleoconch; height 3.55 mm, width 1.9 mm.
Etymology: The species is named after its typical twoband color pattern.
Range: Espírito Santo State, southeastern Brazil (19º16'05"S to 20º51'26"S).
Typelocality: Southern Brazil, off the coast of the state of Espírito Santo, RV “Astro Garoupa”, REVIZEE Central V, #20 (19º16'05"S 038º00'32"W), 67 m, 28 June 2001.
Typematerial: Holotype: MNRJ 10302; Paratype 1: IBUFRJ 13294; Paratype 2: MNRJ 10303 Paratype 3: MZUSP 43203; Paratype 4: MORG 41070; Paratype 5: ZMA Moll. 4.04.022; Paratype 6: IBUFRJ 14113; Paratype 7: MNHN. Paratype 8: MORG 41071; Paratypes 1–8 from type locality. Paratype 9: IBUFRJ 14112 #44 (20º51'26"S 033º38'09"W), 65 m, 11/vii/2001, Espírito Santo state, southeastern Brazil.
Remarks: The most similar species to P. bicincta are P. zosterophila (Webster, 1905) , reported from New Zealand, and P. olivacea (Frauenfeld, 1867) from Australia. From the former species P. bicincta can be distinguished by its more ovalpyriform aperture, shallow pits in the protoconch, and columellar tooth. From P. olivacea it is distinguished by its weaker axial cordlets and the presence of a columellar tooth.
Along the Brazilian coast, the family Anabathridae is represented by A. vallei Aguayo & Jaume, 1947 and A. glabrus Simone, 1996 . From these, P. bicincta can be distinguished by its lack of an umbilicus. Moreover, none of the above species (in either Pisinna or Amphithalamus ) shows the bicolor band pattern that is typical of P. bicincta .
