( Figs 4A, B View FIGURE 4 ; 8D, E View FIGURE 8 ; 10G, H View FIGURE 10 ; 12G View FIGURE 12 )
Eurypogon granulatus Sakai, 1982: 57 .
Type locality. “Tsuifen, Nantou Hsien, Central Taiwan ” [ Taiwan, Nantou County, Tsuifeng GoogleMaps , ca. 24°06′N 121°12′E].
Type material. Holotype male ( EUMJ), labeled: “ Tsuifen , Nantou-Hsien, FORMOSA, 4 v 1979, S.TSUYUKI leg.” // “ Holotype Eurypogon granulatus Sakai 1982 ”. Four paratypes [not studied by us]: two males, two females ( EUMJ).
Additional material examined. TAIWAN: NANTOU: 1 male, Tsuifeng, 25.IV.1999, Y.-Y. Lien leg. ( NMPC) . TAICHUNG: 1 female, Tashüehshan Mts. , Anmashan, 2230 m, 15. VI .1989, M. Satô leg. ( NMPC).
Diagnosis. This species can be easily recognized based on the distinctly granulated rough surface of interstices between puncture rows on elytra ( Fig. 10G, H View FIGURE 10 ), relatively large elytral punctures, and slender, relatively thin median lobe ( Figs 12G View FIGURE 12 ).
Sexual dimorphism and variability. Males are relatively narrower and more elongate than females, being about 2.8 times as long as wide (excluding head), while females are more robust, being about 2.4 times as long as wide (excluding head; Fig. 4A, B View FIGURE 4 ). Males have longer and more serrate antennae, and less robust and relatively slightly shorter pronotum ( Fig. 8D, E View FIGURE 8 ). For more information, see Sakai (1982). We found the difference between a male and a female in the relative size of punctures on elytra ( Fig. 10G, H View FIGURE 10 ); however, more specimens of both sexes should be studied to understand if this is a sexual dimorphism or intraspecific variability.
Distribution. This species is endemic to Taiwan, being known from several mountainous localities across the island ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 ).
