Rhinoptera Cuvier, 1829: 401 View in CoL . Type species: Myliobatis marginata Geoffroy St. Hilaire, 1817 View in CoL , by subsequent designation; type designated by Bonaparte, 1838: 6 (of separate), also by Hay, 1902: 321. Appeared first as Rhenoptera van Hasselt, 1823: 318 and Rhinoptera van Hasselt, 1824: 90 View in CoL , regarded as nomina nuda. Cuvier’s “Les Rhinoptera Kuhl View in CoL ” evidently sufficient to Latinise; two included species.
