Martius (1841) reported his collection number 523 in the protologue, but Cunha (1985) cited collection Luschnath 24 (M) as the ‘holotype’, but without having seen it. However, this specimen is not original material for L. ochrophylla because it was not mentioned in the protologue. The original specimen is Martius 523, part of the collection “Martii Herbar Florae Brasil ”, and mostly preserved in M, but with duplicates in several other herbaria. We designated herein Martius 523 (L2352817) as the lectotype in accordance with Art. 9.3 of the ICN because it is the most complete and best-preserved specimen congruent with the protologue’s description. Based on the type materials, the application of the name L. ochrophylla is confirmed as an accepted species, as proposed by Cunha (1985).
