Tetraneuromyia brevipalpis View in CoL sp. nov.

Figs 32–34 View FIGURES 32–40

Diagnosis. This new Tetraneuromyia is based on characters of males; females and larvae are not known. The palpus of T. brevipalpis is shorter than in any of the congeneric species; although consisting of 4 segments, as in other Tetraneuromyia , it is usually only half, occasionally up to three fifths as long as the head height. Normally in Tetraneuromyia , palpus length approximates head height. Apart from that, there are certain genitalic structures rendering T. brevipalpis unmistakable, with particulars as follows. An obvious peculiarity is the ventral gonocoxal emargination, which is larger than in any other Tetraneuromyia and strongly sclerotized all round ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 32–40 , ↓ 1). Another character specific to T. brevipalpis is that the anterior processes of the gonocoxal apodemes are extremely short ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 32–40 , ↓ 2); normally in Tetraneuromyia they are much longer, protruding far beyond the anterior gonocoxal edge (see, for example, Fig. 38 View FIGURES 32–40 ). Of the two pairs of tegminal processes, the posterior processes are directed ventrally, by that resembling cowhorns ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 32–40 , ↓ 3), while the dagger-shaped lateral processes are directed laterally ( Fig. 33 View FIGURES 32–40 , ↓ 4).

Other male characters. Body size 1.7–1.9 mm. Head. Eye bridge 0–1 ommatidium long dorsally. Scape and pedicel concolorous with flagellum. Neck of fourth flagellomere 2.0–2.1 times as long as node ( Fig. 34 View FIGURES 32–40 ). Circumfila with 1–2 short posterior extensions. Thorax. Anepisternum asetose. Wing 2.8 times longer than wide. M 1+2 usually completely faded. Genitalia ( Fig. 32 View FIGURES 32–40 ). Posterior edge of ninth tergite slightly concave. Gonocoxae with narrow asetose portion ventrally. Gonostylus robust, slightly bent inwards, broadly rounded apically, with inconspicuous tuft of large microtrichia but no tooth apically. Ejaculatory apodeme thick, with sclerotized broadening apically.

Etymology. The species epithet, brevipalpis , is a Latin adjective referring to the short palpus.
