Adscita statices (Linnaeus, 1758) View in CoL
Within Europe, two distinct subspecies of A. statices are known, A. statices statices distributed from Spain, most of central and eastern Europe to Siberia, Turkey all to China. The other subspecies, A. statices drenowskii is distributed in the Balkans and Turkey ( Naumann et al. 1999). According to Šašić et al. (2016) specimens from Croatia belong to the subspecies A. statices statices which is in accordance with the material examined within this study. Literature records of this species are rather common ( Kranjčev 1985; Mladinov 1958, 1976; Šašić et al. 2016). With this survey additional records are given but in overall the distribution in the country is rather well known ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ). As it is a rather common and widespread species, it is not connected to a specific habitat but rather inhabits different habitats including dry, sandy, calcareous habitats as well as wet meadows and marshes ( Naumann et al. 1999). Still, almost all records from Croatia are connected to the montane habitats, while the species is usually missing from lowland areas. This may be a bias as most of the “good” lowland habitats disappeared from Croatia, which has also been reported in the butterfly diversity of the country ( Koren et al. 2017). Still, A. statices can be regarded as one of the most common Procridinae species in the country.
