Description. The Cyclocephala fasciolata species group consists of four species and is characterized by following combination of characters. Color black except pronotum with 2 transverse, slightly oblique, reddish-orange bands; body broad, subrectangular ( Fig. 2A–D View FIGURE 2 ) ( C. melane Bates is totally black ( Fig. 6E View FIGURE 6 ). Head: Frons mostly impunctate, frontoclypeal suture slightly indicated ( Fig. 2A–D View FIGURE 2 ). Clypeus with punctures dense to sparse, clypeal apex parabolic, slightly reflexed ( Fig. 2A–D View FIGURE 2 ). Mandible without teeth, inner apex slight concave ( Fig. 9A, C View FIGURE 9 ); labium densely setose, apex widely notched, paraglossa slightly developed ( Fig. 12C–D View FIGURE 12 ); maxilla with galea developed, with 6 teeth, lacinia not developed, apex with slender, long setae ( Fig. 9B, D View FIGURE 9 ). Epipharynx rectangular, densely setose, apex projecting at center (ventral view, Figs. 13E–F View FIGURE 13 ; 14A–B View FIGURE 14 ). Antenna with 10 antennomeres, club subequal in length to antennomeres 2–7 (slightly shorter in female) Pronotum: Surface with punctures moderate in density, moderately large to large (especially on sides). Base with marginal bead (Fig. 32A). Elytra: Surface with punctacte rows, punctures of striae and intervals similar to those of pronotum; entire surface often coarsely and transversely wrinkled obscuring rows of punctures. Wing vein AA 3 equal length to AA 4 ( Fig. 22A–D View FIGURE 22 ). Anterior edge of wing distal of apical hinge glabrous ( Fig. 22D View FIGURE 22 ). Pygidium: Surface usually moderately densely punctate; punctures moderate in size to more usually moderately large, ocellate, setigerous; setae short, tawny, moderately dense ( Fig. 24D–E View FIGURE 24 ). In lateral view, surface in males evenly convex, weakly convex to nearly flat in females. Legs: Protibia bidentate in males, basal tooth slightly removed from others ( Fig. 18D, F–G View FIGURE 18 ). Protarsus in male enlarged, tarsomeres 2–4 successively gradually larger, fourth with small tooth on ventral surface, fifth large, curved, with small angulation at base on ventral side ( Figs. 17C–E View FIGURE 17 ), all tarsomeres longitudinally striate on dorsal face, median claw large, curved, apex cleft ( Fig. 15C–E View FIGURE 15 ); external edge with some striations ( Fig. 16C–E View FIGURE 16 ). Metatarsus subequal in length to metatibia. Females with protibia tridentate ( Fig. 18E View FIGURE 18 ). Venter: Prosternal process moderately long, columnar, apex obliquely flattened in a transverse oval with anterior 2/3 to 4/5 raised into convex “button”. Parameres: As in Fig. 27A–F View FIGURE 27 . Female similar to male, but protarsus simple. Gonocoxite and gonosternite fused (Fig. 32F).
