3. Loxandrus calathinus LeConte, 1878:376 View in CoL
This taxon was described from an unspecified number of specimens collected at «Tampa, Florida ». LeConte’s collection in the MCZ contains two specimens under that name. One of them, a female labelled «Tampa 24.4 Fla/1237a [handwritten]/Type 5693/ L. calathinus Lec. [handwritten]», is herein selected as the lectotype and the label « Lectotype Loxandrus calathinus LeConte des. Y. Bousquet 2004» has been added. The second specimen is a male with the genitalia dissected and the endophallus pulled out, likely by Allen, and stored in a glycerine microvial .
Both specimens (SBL ¼ 9.1 mm [lectotype]; ABL ¼ about 10.0 mm [lectotype]) are conspecific with specimens of L. agilis Dejean, 1828 [NEW SYNONYMY]. That species is easily recognized because it is the only one in the agilis group with the elytral epipleuron deeply sinuate at the level of the plica. The shape and endophallic structures of the genitalia of the male agree with the description and illustrations provided by Allen (1972:92–94) of L. agilis . Allen certainly planned to rule on the status of L. calathinus since the name is listed in his table I (p. 8–9), but forgot to do so.
