Male. Uniformly pale brown with basal triangles of scutellum black ( Figs 1–2 View FIGURE 1–4 , 5–6 View FIGURE 5–8 ).
Male genitalia. Pygofer ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9–19 ) lobe without processes, arms of anal collar expanded distally. Subgenital plates ( Figs 9, 10 View FIGURE 9–19 ) slightly curved dorsally, without marginal setae. Style ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 9–19 ) curved dorsally at nearly 45° angle, apophysis gradually narrowed to acute upturned apex, lacking setae. Connective ( Figs 12–13 View FIGURE 9–19 ) without dorsomedial keel. Aedeagal shaft ( Figs 14–16 View FIGURE 9–19 ) laterally compressed and broad basally then strongly curved dorsally and tapered to apex with short projection on each side at apex, gonopore apical, small.
Female. Similar in overall coloration to male, but slightly darker ( Figs 3–4 View FIGURE 1–4 , 7–8 View FIGURE 5–8 ). Second valvula ( Figs 18–19 View FIGURE 9–19 ) short, of uniform width except apically gradually narrowed to acute apex with dorsal margin serrated, subapex bearing approximately 8 teeth along dorsal margin.
Measurements (mm). Male: body length 5.1, face length 1.45, width 1.73; distance between ocelli 0.53; distance from ocellus to eyes 0.25; medial length of pronotum 0.68, width 1.5; scutellum length 0.85, width 1.05. Female: body length 5.75–5.95, face length 1.55–1.57, width 1.85–1.87; distance between ocelli 0.62–0.63; distance from ocellus to eyes 0.3–0.32; medial length of pronotum 0.69–0.74, width 1.63–1.65; scutellum length 0.98–1.0, width 1.2–1.25.
Material examined. Holotype: male, CHINA, Hainan Province, Ledong County, Mt. Jianfengling , 17.vii.2007, Bin Zhang . Paratypes: 2 females, same data as holotype .
Distribution. China: Hainan. Etymology. The new species is named in honor of Prof. C.A. Viraktamath of the Department of Entomology, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, India, for his work on Oriental Idiocerinae .
