Cyrnus Stephens, 1836: 167 .

Type species: Cyrnus unipunctatus Stephens. [synonym of Cyrnus trimaculatus (Curtis) ] Hormocerus Kolenati, 1859: 167, 222 (preoccupied according to Fischer, 1962: 125).

Type species: Tinodes (Hormocerus) crenaticornis Kolenati , monobasic.

Diagnosis: The genus is characterized by possessing a spur formula 3,4,4; maxillary palps with the 1st and 2nd segments subequal in size and much shorter than the 3rd segment; and the 3rd segment originating subapically on the lateral face of the 2nd segment. The forewings each have the discoidal cell and median cell closed and apical forks 2, 3, 4, and 5 are present. The hind wings each have an open discoidal cell and the apical forks 2 and 5 are present. The gonopods are short, robust and rounded. The genus is restricted to the Palearctic Region.
