The affiliation of the tube dwelling chaetopterids to sedentarian annelids (especially to Spionida and Canalipalpata respectively by Rouse and Fauchald (1997)) was proposed by many researchers and a more basal branching position indicated by different molecular studies was discussed and believed to be an artifact ( Struck et al. 2007; Bleidorn et al. 2009b; Zrzavy et al. 2009; Dordel et al. 2010; Eibye-Jacobsen and Vinther 2012). However, the basal branching position became stable and robustly supported once more species and molecular data were incorporated in the analyses ( Struck et al. 2011; Weigert et al. 2014; Andrade et al. 2015).
