Type Locality: Pakistan, Punjab, "Bhawulpore" = Bahawalpur.
Vernacular Names: Indian Hedgehog.
Synonyms: Paraechinus intermedius Biswas and Ghose 1970 ; Paraechinus kutchicus Biswas and Ghose 1970 ; Paraechinus mentalis (Fitzinger 1867) ; Paraechinus pictus (Stoliczka 1872) .
Distribution: The arid zones of Pakistan and NW India.
Conservation: IUCN – Lower Risk (lc) as Hemiechinus micropus .
Discussion: Biswas and Ghose (1970) regarded intermedius as a species but Corbet (1988:156-157) included it in Paraechinus micropus as a synonym. Range mapped by Corbet and Hill (1992).
