Chlamisus varipennatus sp. nov.

(Figs 7-1, 7-2; 7-3)

Type locality. CHINA: Yunnan Province, Xishuangbanna , Xiao-meng-yang.

Type material examined. Holotype: 1♀, “ Yunnan Province, Xiao-meng-yang, 850 m / 3. V. 1957, coll. Qiuzhen Liang ” (IZ-CAS).

Measurements. BL = 3.6 mm, BW = 2.3 mm, HL = 1.05 mm, HW = 1.05 mm, PL = 1.7 mm, PW = 2.3 mm, EL = 2.5 mm, PYL = 1.1 mm, PYW = 1.2 mm.

Description. Body (Figs 7-1A; 7-2A) small, general color black and opaque, scattered with reddish brown to yellow markers. Labrum, antennae, prosternal process, tarsi and apex of tibiae covered with short yellowish hairs. Pronotum yellow to reddish brown on lateral portions and anterior-declivity, scattered with black posteriorly, a pair of yellowish tubercles in the middle of posterior declivity; elytra with the distal half reddish brown on raised areas, black on depressed areas, a pair of yellow tubercles near suture posteriorly, and the basal half with all raised areas yellow, depressed areas reddish brown.

Head (Figs 7-1D; 7-2C) mostly reddish brown, yellow on upper part of vertex, a drop-shaped brown spot on vertex, extending to occiput; general shape round, covered densely with shallow and round punctures. Labrum yellow, rectangular, rounded apically, twice as broad as long. Eyes black.

Antennae (Figs 7- 1I; 7-2E) yellow, darker with some middle segments; Scape three times as long as broad, narrow at base, robust at apex, pedicel small and globular, 3rd and 4th slender, 5th and 6th small, slightly dilated, 7– 10th flat and very broad, 11th ovate.

Pronotum (Fig. 7-1F) finely and densely punctured, puncture intervals raised; disc elevated, with no distinct margins, a pair of weak tubercles on top of posterior declivity, a pair of round tubercles at posterior margin above median row of elytra, and a very low large tubercle on the anterior-declivity; no distinct tubercles on lateral portion. Scutellum (Fig. 7-1H) broad and rectangular, weakly produced anteriorly, posterior-lateral angles strongly extended. Prosternum (Figs 7-1E; 7-2G) infundibular in form, slightly dilated at middle, prosternal process extended and sharp.

Elytra (Fig. 7-2F) rounded-truncate apically, lateral sides of elytra oblique; coarsely and densely punctured, puncture intervals raised; humeri finely rugose; suture teeth very sharp, only absent at apex; basal margin from scutellum to median row weakly raised and strongly rugose; longitudinal ridges distinct, tubercles strong; sutural row consisting of five tubercles, 1st small and indistinct, with a small tubercle branching outwards from below, 2nd rather large, 3rd merging with the 3rd tubercle of median row into a transverse tubercle, 4th merging with the 4th tubercle of median row; median row with five tubercles, 1st large, near basal margin, 2nd merging with the 2nd tubercle of humeral margin into a transverse tubercle, 5th large; humeral row consisting of three tubercles, 1st small, 3rd sub-triangular; lateral row with two tubercles, 1st transverse, 2nd small; a big sharp tubercle at posterior-lateral angle, and a large tubercle consisting of several small tubercles above it. Legs (Fig. 7-1J) orange, marked with black on middle tibiae, hind tibiae and femora.

Abdomen (Fig. 7-1G) deeply and densely punctured. 1st visible abdominal segment with three small reddish tubercles near lateral margins, 5th segment with a large round fovea in the middle. Pygidium (Figs 7-1C; 7-2D) slightly broader than long, densely and deeply punctured, median longitudinal carina sharp and throughout, lateral carinae very weak, transverse carina absent, interspaces of these carinae and the lateral portions rather shallowly depressed, basal margin raised, slightly prominent at lateral ends.

Spermatheca (Figs 7-2H; 7-3B) right-angled bending halfway, very acute at the apex, strongly dilated at onethird from apex, then become narrower; duct weakly sclerotized, irregularly coiling 4-6 times. Rectal sclerites (Figs 7- 2I; 7-3A) strongly sclerotized, closely connected between the two sclerites on ventral side, rectangular, almost quadrate, with a notch below, a sharp projection near outer angle, outer angle narrowed, truncate. Male absent.

Etymology. The specific epithet is composed of two Latin words, varius (variegated) and pennatus (winged), referring to the distinct coloration of elytra.

Distribution. China (Yunnan).

Diagnosis. This species can be distinguished from other Chinese species by having the basal half of elytra mostly yellow, a pair of very small orange tubercles on top of posterior declivity of pronotum, and lacking lateral carinae of pygidium.
