Gymnoscelis esakii Inoue View in CoL
( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 22–57 )
Gymnoscelis esakii View in CoL : Beljaev & Mironov 2019: 270 (Sakhalin).
Material examined. 1 ♂, 1 ♀, S Kholmsk, 13.IX.2017, 08.IX.2019 .
Distribution. Russia (S RFE: SW Sakhalin, S Primorskii Krai), Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Tsushima, Yakushima, Amami Oshima, Okinawa), South Korea (Jeju).
Remarks. The finding of G. esakii in Sakhalin significantly expands its distribution range to the northeast. In Japan the larvae are polyphages and were recorded on various plants from Ranunculaceae , Myricaceae , Rosaceae , Ulmaceae , Anacardiaceae , Araliaceae , Pittosporaceae , and Asteraceae ; prefer flowers and buds. Possibly, in Sakhalin this species is migrant, as the moths have been recorded in autumn only, while in Japan it is a common species, occurring from May to October ( Nakajima & Yazaki 2011).
