Perrona sp.

Material: 1 specimen, SL: 31 mm, MD: 12 mm (we are not aware of the whereabouts of the specimen) .

Discussion. Kókay (1972) illustrated a slender species with high, slightly gradate spire with weak tubercles on the subsutural collar. This species is reminiscent of Perrona vindobonensis (Quenstedt, 1884) , but differs in the presence of tubercles. Perrona sabinae ( Hoernes & Auinger, 1891) develops a comparable sculpture, but has a much lower spire. We have not seen the original specimen and refrain from describing it as new species although we are sure that the specimen represents an undescribed species. This species was confused by Kókay (1972) and Steininger (1973) with ‘ Clavatula ’ gothica Bellardi, 1877 , from the Burdigalian of Italy, which has cylindrical whorls, a high spire, more numerous but smaller tubercles, and a tuberculate peribasal spiral cord.

Paleoenvironment. Unknown, probably inner neritic environments.

Distribution in Central Paratethys. Karpatian: Pannonian Basin: Várpalota ( Hungary) ( Kókay 1972) [note that Kókay (1972) and Steininger et al. (1973) considered these occurrences as Ottnangian, but Mandic (2003) documented a younger (Karpatian) age for the strata].
