Clavatula olgae ( Hoernes & Auinger, 1891) — Landau et al. 2013 (partim): 286, pl. 48, figs 5–6 [non pl. 48, figs 2–4, pl. 50, fig. 8 = ‘ Clavatula ’ atatuerki nov. sp.].

Type material. Holotype: NHMW 1847 View Materials /0058/1220, Seyithasan ( Turkey), SL: 36.4 mm, MD: 15.0 mm, illustrated in Landau et al. (2013, pl. 48, figs 5a–5b), figs 14D 1 –D 2 . Paratype: NHMW 1847 View Materials /0058/1221, Seyithasan ( Turkey), SL: 45.2 mm , MD: 18.0 mm, illustrated in Landau et al. (2013, pl. 48, figs 6a–6b), figs 14E 1 –E 2.

Type locality. Pinar Yaylasi ( Turkey), Karaman Basin .

Type stratum. Silt and clay of the Týrtar Formation.

Age. Middle Miocene, late Serravallian.

Etymology. Named after the late Arie W. Janssen (1937–2021). Esteemed colleague and friend of the second author, he will be missed.

Diagnosis. Medium-sized, moderately broad fusiform shell with tripartite early sculpture, later whorls with weak subsutural collar, two secondary cords overrunning suprasutural beads, mid-whorl concave, last whorl with relatively well-developed beaded cords below shoulder of alternate strength, beads aligned axially, aperture lirate within.

Description. Shell moderately large, moderately broad fusiform with conical spire; apical angle 40–41°. Protoconch not preserved. Teleoconch of nine whorls. Early teleoconch whorls flat-sided with tripartite sculpture; three spiral rows of beads, suprasutural row bifid by intercalation of narrow spiral groove; beads forming vague arcuate axial riblets. On seventh whorl central beaded cord disappears, mid-whorl becomes concave and smooth except for weak, narrow, comma-shaped axial riblets, 2–3 secondary cords overrun adsutural cords. Suture narrowly incised, weakly undulating. Last whorl 62–64% of total height. Subsutural collar low, poorly delimited, bearing 2–3 subobsolete secondary cords and wide-spaced, poorly delimited tubercles. Subsutural ramp of moderate width, concave. Shoulder moderately developed, angled, delimited by shoulder cord bearing 20–24 small, axially elongated tubercles; convex below, slightly angled and moderately constricted at base. Siphonal fasciole poorly delimited, weakly rounded. Sculpture below ramp of narrow beaded spiral cords of alternating strength, extending over base and siphonal fasciole. Shoulder tubercles and beads aligned vertically to form poorly defined axial ribs. Aperture moderately narrow, pyriform. Outer lip not thickened, lirate within. Anal sinus deep, moderately narrow, asymmetrically U-shaped, with apex below collar. Siphonal canal moderately long, moderately narrow, straight to slightly deflected to the left, shallowly notched at tip. Columella broadly excavated, weakly twisted at fasciole. Columellar and parietal callus moderately thickened, sharply delimited, forming modest callus rim.

Discussion. This species was identified by Landau et al. (2013) as Clavatula olgae ( Hoernes & Auinger, 1891) , but ‘ Clavatula olgae differs in having a much slenderer form, more strongly developed subsutural collar, sharper shoulder, and longer siphonal canal. Based on its tripartite early whorls it represents a species of the ‘ Clavatula interrupta group and is described herein as ‘ Clavatula ’ ariejansseni nov. sp. In the original work ( Landau et al. 2013) also confused it with ‘ C. ’ atatuerki nov. sp., but that species has bipartite early whorls sculpture and belongs within the ‘ Clavatula camillae group. Other Paratethyan members of the ‘ C. ’ interrupta group: ‘ C. ’ hirmetzli Kovács & Vicián, 2021 is even broader and more coarsely sculptured, ‘ C. ’ interrupta ( Brocchi, 1814) , is slenderer, with a stronger subsutural collar, longer siphonal canal, and smooth instead of lirate outer lip, ‘ Clavatula ’ irisae nov. sp., ‘ C. ’ sophiae ( Hoernes & Auinger, 1891) and ‘ C. ’ vitalisi Strausz, 1955 all have a more strongly developed subsutural collar, more strongly concave mid-portion, and a shorter siphonal fasciole

Paleoenvironment. Inner neritic environments ( Landau et al. 2013).
