Revised description. Shell medium-sized, solid, moderately slender fusiform with gradate spire; apical angle ~35–40°. Protoconch not preserved. Teleoconch of ten whorls. Early teleoconch whorls weakly concave with two narrow, adsutural spiral cords separated by weakly concave central part with opisthocline, comma-shaped axial riblets.Axial riblets fading out on fourth whorl. Later whorls subcylindrical, with weakly swollen, convex subsutural collar, initially smooth, on last whorls bearing low, rounded tubercles (~10 on last whorl). Whorl weakly convex below collar, separated by very shallow, narrow, weakly concave mid-portion. Spire whorls with delicate spiral cords below subsutural collar, becoming obsolete on penultimate and last whorls. Suture narrowly incised, linear. Last whorl ~60% of total height, low subcylindrical. Subsutural collar rounded, weakly delimited, bearing low wide-spaced tubercles. Subsutural ramp narrow, weakly concave. Shoulder indistinct, rounded. Mid-whorl inflated, rounded and moderately constricted at base. Siphonal fasciole weakly swollen, poorly delimited. Spiral sculpture limited to lower half of base and fasciole, well-defined by weak cords of irregular width. Aperture moderately wide, pyriform. Outer lip not thickened, smooth within; anal sinus moderately deep and wide, asymmetrically Ushaped, with apex just below subsutural collar. Siphonal canal moderately long, moderately wide, straight to slightly deflected to the left with shallowly notched tip. Columella strongly excavated in adapical third, straight below, slightly twisted at fasciole, smooth. Columellar and parietal callus thin, adherent, poorly delimited, forming broad indistinct rim.

Discussion. Perrona sabinae ( Hoernes & Auinger, 1891) is highly reminiscent of Perrona descendens ( Hilber, 1879) and was considered to be a subjective junior synonym of the latter by Bałuk (2003) and Landau et al. (2013). On re-examination of the type material the taxa are well separated. Perrona descendens has a more prominent subsutural collar and a narrower anal sinus. In addition, P. sabinae has larger, better defined tubercles, and a relatively broader, but lower, subcylindrical part of the last whorl. Moreover, the base of P. sabinae is strongly constricted, resulting in more accentuated siphonal canal. Both species might have been also ecologically separated: P. descendens settled mudflats and coastal subtidal environments, whereas P. sabinae seems to derive from middle to outer neritic environments. The absence of prominent spiral sculpture and the presence of beads distinguish P. sabinae clearly from P. vindobonensis (Quenstedt, 1884) . Perrona ilonae nov. nom. differs in its conspicuous spiral sculpture.

Paleoenvironment. The fauna from Lăpugiu de Sus derives from a broad range of paleoenvironments and is partly transported (own data). The silty clay in the apertures of the available specimens suggests that Perrona sabinae was part of the autochthonous fauna of middle to outer neritic environments.

Badenian (middle Miocene): Krka Basin: Ivanji dol ( Slovenia) ( Mikuž 2009); Făget Basin: Lăpugiu de Sus, Coşteiu de Sus ( Romania) ( Boettger 1906); Zorlenţul Mare Basin ( Romania) ( Florei 1961); Dacian Basin: Târnene ( Bulgaria) (Kojumdgieva in Kojumdgieva & Strachimirov 1960).
