Procorticacarus curtipalpis n. sp.

Type material. Holotype female, Moline Bottom Rockhole, Kakadu NP, Northern Territory, Australia, 13º 34.418 S 132º 15.290 E, alt. 175 m a.s.l., 1-x-2005 ( NTM).

Diagnosis. P4 stocky and without ventral peg-like seta, P2 without ventral extension, P2 and P3 without papillae, dorsum with two small anteromedial platelets bearing the postocularia.

Description. Idiosoma dorsally 502 long and 381 wide, ventrally 559 long. Idiosoma with numerous hair-like papillae, dorsum with two small anteromedial platelets with the postocularia, 66–68 long and 40–42 wide. Posterior to the anteromedial platelets a row of three pairs of glandularia platelets, the anterior pair a bit further apart than the two posterior pairs. First coxae fused medially. Cxgl–4 lying anteriorly of middle of fourth coxae. Vgl–2 with glands and associated setae. Genital field 70 long, with thee pairs of acetabula, anterior pair 22 in diameter. Length of P1– P5: 22, 60, 88, 84, 32. P2 without ventral extension, P2 and P3 without papillae, P4 stocky and without ventral peglike seta. Length of I-leg-4–6: 78, 80, 54. Length of IV-leg-4–6: 116, 136, 104. Legs without swimming setae.

Male: Unknown.

Etymology. Named for its stocky palp.

Remarks. The new species differs from all known species in the absence of a ventral extension of P 2 in combination with a stocky palp.
