• Mediumto large-sized marsupials; long, strong tails and highly developed hindlimbs and hindfeet; pelage mostly gray to brown with lighter underfur.

• Diverse habitats from subalpine grasslands to tropical rainforests, dry woodlands, and sandy-stony deserts.

• 13 genera, 59 species,at least 88 extant taxa.

• 2 species Critically Endangered, 8 species Endangered, 8 species Vulnerable; 1 subspecies Extinct in the Wild; 1 subspecies and 4 species Extinct since 1600.
