This species was described from females collected from Cameron Highlands by Edwards (1928). The female terminalia were illustrated by Takaoka and Suzuki (1984), and the female and male were described by Takaoka and Davies (1995). The pupa and larva of this species were recently described based on specimens collected from a small stream (ca. 4 m wide) at a high elevation of 1,315 m in Cameron Highlands by Ya’cob et al. (2018a).
It is characterized by the darkened legs of the female and male, bare pupal frons and six pupal gill filaments.
