Xyleborus discolor Blandford, 1898: 429 .

Xyleborus posticestriatus Eggers, 1939a: 119 . Synonymy: Schedl, 1958: 149.

Distribution: From the Indian subcontinent through Southeast Asia and Indonesia West of Wallace’s line, Philippines, Taiwan. [4]

Hosts: Polyphagous ( Wood & Bright 1992). No hosts have been recorded in Taiwan.

Biology: The biology is described by Browne (1961), Kalshoven (1959). Le Pelley (1968) notes that it attacks green, living branches of coffee in Sri Lanka, but it is not considered an important pest.

Taxonomy: Wood and Bright (1992) list Xyleborus posticestriatus Eggers as a distinct species from X. discolor . We have examined a syntype of X. posticestriatus (DEI) and compared it with specimens (RAB) which had previously been compared with the holotype of X. discolor (NHML) . Xylosandrus posticestriatus is simply a small form of X. discolor , and we follow Schedl (1958) in considering it to be a synonym of the latter species. Beeson (1930) had already noted the size variation which occurs within X. discolor .
