Xyleborus fornicatus Eichhoff, 1868: 151 .
Distribution: From the Indian subcontinent throughout Southeast Asia to New Guinea, Australia and the Pacific islands. Imported to and established in both eastern and western North America ( Haack 2006), and in other areas including Madagascar and Panama. First recorded from Taiwan by Schedl (1952a). [4]
Hosts: Strongly polyphagous, attacking almost all the major tree families of the Asian tropics ( Browne 1961). In Taiwan, recorded from Camellia thea (Theaceae) by Schedl (1952a), and from Brownea sp. (Leguminosae) by Huang et al. (2003).
Biology: Further details of the biology are given by Browne (1961) and Kalshoven (1959). The species is well-known as a pest of tea plantations in Sri Lanka and southern India, and can become a pest of fruit and other plantation trees ( Beaver et al. 2008).
