Xyleborus affinis Eichhoff, 1868: 401 .

Distribution: Probably native to tropical America ( Wood 1977), but now circumtropical. Less common in the Oriental region than in Africa and the Americas, and not previously recorded from Taiwan. [6]

New records: 130 specimens from the following counties: Ilan, Nantou, Pingtung, Taitung .

Hosts: Strongly polyphagous with hundreds of host species listed by Schedl (1963) and Wood (1982).

Biology: The biology of the species is reviewed by Schedl (1963 as Xyleborus mascarensis Eichhoff ). Laboratory culture techniques are described by Roeper et al. (1980a), and Biedermann et al. (2009), and Roeper et al. (1980b) describe the life history from in vitro culture.
