28. Coccotrypes carpophagus (Hornung) View in CoL

Bostrichus carpophagus Hornung, 1842: 116 .

Distribution: Probably of African origin ( Wood 1977), but now circumtropical. Recorded from Taiwan as its synonym, Coccotrypes pygmaeus Eichhoff ( Schedl 1949) . Often intercepted in seeds and nuts in temperate zone countries. [6]

Hosts: Polyphagous in seeds and fruits of many species, especially palms ( Arecaceae ) ( Wood & Bright 1992). Biology: The details of the biology of the species seem to be unstudied, but presumably are very similar to the closely related species C. dactyliperda (F.) ( Herfs 1949, 1950, 1958; Zchori-Fein et al. 2006).
