Distribution: Almost tropicopolitan, although probably native to Southeast Asia ( Wood 1977). New to Taiwan. [6]

Hosts: Attacks a wide range of angiosperm trees and shrubs.
Biology: The species breeds especially in twigs and seedlings. Its biology is described by Browne (1961 as Hypothenemus hispidus Eggers ). It is recorded causing damage to cocoa seedlings ( Theobroma cacao ) ( Sterculiaceae ) in West Malaysia ( Browne 1961).
