Distribution: Almost tropicopolitan, although probably native to Southeast Asia ( Wood 1977). New to Taiwan. [6]

New records: Kinmen [no precise locality] 13.ix.2004 (S. S. Lu) (2) ; Nantou, Huison , 7.v.2006,17.xi.2006, 9.iii.2007, (L. Y. Liu) (3) ; Taichung, National Chunghsing University , 19.iv.2006 (L. Y. Liu) (2) ; Taipei, 13.vii.1948 (K. S. Lin) (1) .

Hosts: Attacks a wide range of angiosperm trees and shrubs.

Biology: The species breeds especially in twigs and seedlings. Its biology is described by Browne (1961 as Hypothenemus hispidus Eggers ). It is recorded causing damage to cocoa seedlings ( Theobroma cacao ) ( Sterculiaceae ) in West Malaysia ( Browne 1961).
