Generic diagnosis. Eye densely haired; occiput with or without black setulae; lower margin strongly protruding forward, extending beyond base of vibrissa; antenna short, arista bare or pubescent, 1st aristomere shorter than wide, 2nd aristomere slightly longer than wide; palpus reddish yellow or dark brown, nearly cylindrical, only weakly widened near apex, as long as pedicel and 1st flagellomere combined or a little longer. Three basal postpronotal setae arranged in a triangle; metathoracic spiracle large, larger than apex of halter; prosternum and proepisternum bare; 2 presutural and 2–3 postsutural acrostichal setae; 3 presutural and 3 postsutural dorsocentral setae, 2 postsutural intra-alar setae rather widely separated; 3 postsutural supra-alar setae, anterior seta fine; 3 katepisternal setae; anatergite bare or with fine hairs; scutellum with 3–6 pairs of marginal setae. Bend of vein M usually rounded; vein CuA1 not reaching wing margin. Fore tibia with 2 posterior setae, 1 preapical ventral seta; mid tibia with 2–3 anterodorsal, 0–3 ventral and 2–3 posterodorsal setae; hind tibia with 2 or 3 preapical dorsal setae, without apical ventral seta. Claws and pulvilli very long, almost as long as combined length of 4th and 5th tarsomeres. Abdomen long ovate, syntergite 1+2 not excavated to posterior margin, with 2 strong median marginal and a strong lateral marginal setae; 3rd and 4th tergites with 2 median discal and 4–8 median marginal setae; 5th tergite with rows of discal and marginal setae. Male terminalia: The 6th abdominal tergite long and entire, free from syntergosternite 7+8; pregonite and postgonite rod-like, closely associated with each other, the former narrowly connected with hypandrium on anterodorsal margin; phallus elongate and curved dorsally in resting position, broadly membranous with a complex apical structure; epiphallus and aedeagal guide absent. Female terminalia: The 7th abdominal tergite and sternite long and broad; 8th sternite long and modified into a piercer. (Revised after Shima 2011.)
