Description. Adult. Coloration. Body brown. Antenna pale yellow, rarely segments 3–10 with brown apices. Mesoscutum with four broad light brown longitudinal stripes; thorax laterally ochreous. Forewing ( Fig. 16F View FIGURE 16 ) mostly clear in basal third, dark brown in apical two thirds; sometimes with dark brown dots ( Fig. 16G View FIGURE 16 ); apices of pterostigma and Rs dark brown, sometimes also apices of M 1+2, M 3+4, Cu 1a and Cu 1b. Legs pale yellow, pro- and mesocoxae and basal two thirds of femora dark brown. Younger specimens with much less expanded dark colour.

Structure. Head, in lateral view, inclined at <45° from longitudinal body axis. Vertex ( Fig. 10C View FIGURE 10 ) with indistinct microsculpture. Forewing ( Fig. 16F, G View FIGURE 16 ) with Rs strongly curved apically; surface spinules present in all cells, forming hexagons of a single row of spinules, spinules leaving broad spinule-free stripes along the veins, absent in basal two thirds of cell c+sc. Hindwing with 6 ungrouped costal setae. Metatibia bearing 5–7 apical spurs, arranged as 2–3 + 3–4, anteriorly separated by 4 bristles.

Terminalia ( Fig. 26M–R View FIGURE 26 ). Male. Proctiger strongly produced in basal half; covered with moderately long setae in apical half. Subgenital plate, in lateral view, subglobular; dorsal margin weakly curved, posterior margin evenly convex; with sparse, long setae. Paramere, in lateral view, irregularly lanceolate, widest medially; paramere apex, in lateral view, blunt, directed slightly anteriad, in dorsal view, apex blunt, directed upwards as well as slightly inwards and anteriad, lacking a sclerotised tooth; outer face with moderately long setae in apical two thirds; inner face with dense, moderately long setae; posterior margin with long setae. Proximal segment of aedeagus with apical part not subdivided. Distal segment of aedeagus with dorsal margin strongly sclerotised and strongly sinuate in basal half; ventral process slightly proximal to the middle, large, in lateral view, thick, distinctly curved ventrad, broadly rounded apically, in dorsal view, ventral process much wider than apical dilation, with broad wing-like lateral lobes on each side and a relatively small button-like median lobe directed slightly ventrad, apical dilation, in lateral view, moderately elongate, subparallel-sided, rounded apically, with a small membranous extension postero-basally, in dorsal view, apical dilation widest in apical third, rounded apically; sclerotised end tube moderately long and weakly sinuate.—Female terminalia cuneate; covered with short setae. Dorsal margin of proctiger, in lateral view, weakly convex distal to circumanal ring, apex upturned, subacute; in dorsal view, apex pointed; circumanal ring, in dorsal view, vaguely cruciform. Subgenital plate, in lateral view, abruptly narrowing in apical half, pointed apically, not upturned; in ventral view, apex blunt.

Fifth instar immature. Unknown.

Host plant. Adults were fogged from Eschweilera atropetiolata S.A.Mori , E. rodriguesiana S.A.Mori ( Lecythidaceae ), Ecclinusa guianensis Eyma and Micropholis guyanensis (A.DC.) Pierre ( Sapotaceae ) which are unlikely hosts.

Distribution. Brazil (AM).

Derivation of name. From the Latin nouns umbra = shade, shadow, and penna = feather, wing, referring to the dark brown forewing.
