Pirates (Cleptocoris) ochripennis Jeannel, 1917

Original data: “Afrique Orientale anglaise: Kijabé, dans le Kikuyu escarpement (ALLUAUD et JEANNEL, févr. 1912)” ( Jeannel 1917: 303).

Type: Syntype 1 ♂: “ TYPE ” // “AFR. OR. ANGL. ( KIKUYU · ESC T) KIJABÉ ALLUAUD ET JEANNEL Fév. 1912. 2100 m. St. 58” // “ Pirates aurigans v. ochripennis n. R. JEANNEL det.” [hw Jeannel] ( Fig. 55 View FIGURE 55 ) .

Type locality: Afrique orientale anglaise: Kikuyu: Kijabé [ Kenya] .

Current status: Valid species ( Coscarón & Morrone 1995: 215).

Remarks: A brief “preliminary diagnosis” of Pirates (Cleptocoris) ochripennis , which nevertheless represented a proposal of the name in an available way, was published by Jeannel (1917), without designating holotype or mentioning the number of type specimens. A subsequent detailed redescription ( Jeannel 1919: 250) mentioned three male types from Kijabé and an additional male from “forêt de bambous du mont Kinangop (alt. 3000 m), dans la chaîne de l’Aberdare, st. n° 54, févr. 1912”. The three males from Kijabé are to be considered as syntypes, whilst the additional male has no type status, as this locality was not mentioned in the original description. Only one syntype was found in MNHN.

In addition, Jeannel (1919: 250) rectified the body length of the species erroneously recorded in Jeannel (1917: 303). It’s “ 22 mm ” instead of “ 12 mm ”.
