Type locality. Merbok mangrove estuary, Kedah, Malaysia ( Hanamura et al. 2008) .
Record from Thailand. This species can be found in the Samut Songkhram estuary, Gulf of Thailand ( Hanamura et al. 2008) and Songkhla Lagoon System ( Lheknim & Yolanda 2020).
Habitat and depth range. This species is very abundant on the surface layer of the estuarine and lagoonal system ( Lheknim & Yolanda 2020; Yolanda 2021).
Distribution. This species is known from Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, ( Hanamura et al. 2008), Thailand ( Hanamura et al. 2008; Lheknim & Yolanda 2020; Yolanda 2021) and Indonesia ( Mantiri et al. 2012).
Remarks. This species is very similar to its ally, M. orientalis , however, this species has a narrower cornea, a long antennal peduncle, and fourth male pleopods reaching or overreaching uropodal statocyst region ( Hanamura et al. 2008).
