Mordella Linnaeus, 1758 View in CoL
Mordella atrata Melsheimer, 1846
A single specimen emerged from a loblolly pine log dead for six months in South Carolina (M. D. Ulyshen, personal observation), new host record .
Mordella invisitata Liljeblad, 1945
Two specimens emerged from bundles of southern red oak twigs ( Quercus falcata Michx. View in CoL ) that were positioned on the ground in Louisiana ( Ferro et al. 2009) .
Mordella lunulata Helmuth, 1865
Adults were collected from dead hardwood limbs (Downie and Arnett 1996), which may be incidental. Larval habits are unknown.
Mordella marginata Melsheimer, 1846
This species was reared from hardwood trees representing several genera, including bur oak ( Quercus macrocarpa Michx. ), soapberry ( Sapindus drummondi Hook. and Arn. ; Sapindaceae ), hickory, and peach (n = 72) ( Dolphin et al. 1972; Ford and Jackman 1996). The diameter of deadwood pieces that this species has been reared from range from <25 mm to 8–20 cm (n = 2, Ferro et al. 2012; n = 2, Ferro and Nguyen 2016). It also emerged from Gloeophyllum sepiarium (Wulfen) Karst ( Agaricomycetes: Gloeophyllaceae ) in Pennsylvania and pupal cells were found within the fungus, but this is considered to be an unlikely host (Weiss 1920).
Eleven individuals were reared from peach wood in Indiana ( Dolphin et al. 1972).
Mordella obliqua LeConte, 1878
Adults were collected by beating dead hardwood limbs in Indiana (Downie and Arnett 1996), which may be incidental. Larval habits are unknown.
