Ecology. Epilithic in mid-intertidal rock pools as well as epiphytic on Centroceras clavulatum in the upper intertidal.

Distribution. Australia, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Chagos Archipelago, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Kuwait, Maldives, Mauritius ( Børgesen, 1941: 41–42, figure 18 ), Oman, Rodrigues ( Dickie, 1877a: 6 ~ Sphacelaria rigida Hering ), Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Singapore, South Africa, Tanzania.
