Type locality. Garan-bi (Cape O-luan), Taiwan .

Ecology. Epilithic in intertidal rock pools, sometimes mixed with P. boergesenii .

Distribution. Based on Muylle (2000: 185–186): Indonesia, Japan, Kenya, Mauritius, Oman, Philippines, Rodrigues (this paper), Saudi Arabia, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Yemen.

Note. Morphologically, P. minor is very similar to P. boryana Thivy. Nevertheless , the frond of the former is composed of no more than two cell layers, whereas the latter is two to three cell layers thick.

General remarks on the distribution of Padina in the Mascarene Islands

Børgesen (1941: 49) mentions two Padina species from Mauritius: P. gymnospora (Kützing) Sonder and P. boryana Thivy. The latter is very similar to P. minor . Neither species mentioned by Børgesen was collected on Rodrigues.
