( Figs 36–37 View FIGURES 36 – 39 )

Harpalus (Pardileus) simplicidens Schauberger, 1929: 185 View in CoL . Type locality: "Ussuri: Sutschan; Mongolei: Kalgan, Chan-heou; Korea: Soeul; China: Shi-wan-tse Hiu-mou-kiamg-keou, Chi-feng-hsien in der Provinz Tschili; Japan: Osaka".

? Harpalus yinchuanensis Huang, 1993: 452 View in CoL , 455. Type locality: Ningxia (Yinchuan, 38°48'N 106°22'E, 1000–1200 m), China.

Type material. Paratype of H. yinchuanensis : ♀, labeled "Ningxia (Yinchuan, 38°48'N 106°22' E, 1000–1200 m, in soil, Li Wenqiang leg.) 89.8" [in Chinese ], and " Harpalus (Pseudoophonus) yinchuanensis " ( SAUCH).

Additional material examined. More than 560 specimens (551 from China), including the following specimens from Jilin, Beijing, Ningxia, Henan, Jiangsu, Shanghai and Fujian. China. JILIN: 1 ♀, Changbaishan Mt., 740 m, 27.VII.1991, Yu Peiyu leg. ( IOZ). BEIJING: 1 ♂, "Pekin, Duchaine, 1927" ( MNHN); 1 ♂, 5 ♀, Haidian, Dongbeiwang, 24.VIII.1958 ( IOZ); 1 ♀, Dongbeiwang, at light, 24.VIII.1958, ( IOZ). NINGXIA: 1 ♀, "Yongning / 1982. VIII.6 " [in Chinese ], " Harpalus yinchuanensis Huang , det. Liang Hongbin, 2003", "compared with type by Liang, 2003.5" ( IOZ). HENAN: 2 ♂, 1 ♀, Xinxiang Co., at light, VIII.1975 ( IOZ); 1 ♂, 2 ♀, Xinyang Co., 27.VIII.1969, Li Rui leg. ( IOZ). JIANGSU: 1 ♂, "Kiang Su, Yu-Toan" ( IOZ). SHANGHAI: 1 ♂, Shanghai, 20.VII.1933 ( IOZ). FUJIAN: 1 ♂, Shanghang, Gutian, 11.IX.1996, Liu Hong leg. ( IOZ).

Diagnosis. This species is similar in external characters to H. pastor , but differs from the latter in having pronotum less strongly rounded at sides, with wider base, metepisterna longer (at least 1.3 times as long as wide), elytra usually without preapical setigerous pores in interval 7, and protibia usually with three ventroapical spines in transverse row; elytral intervals glabrous. The internal sac of median lobe of aedeagus ( Figs 36–37 View FIGURES 36 – 39 ) lacks any distinct sclerotized elements. Body length 9.8–13.1 mm.

Distribution. Widely distributed over China, but more common in the north-eastern part: Heilongjiang, Liaoning, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Shanxi, Hubei, Gansu, Sichuan, Yunnan ( Kataev et al. 2003), Jilin, Hebei, Henan, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou and Xizang ( Hua 2002). It is recorded here from Beijing, Shanghai and Fujian for the first time. Additional material from Jilin, Ningxia, Henan and Jiangsu is also provided.

The species is also known from the south of the Russian Far East (the south of Maritime Territory), North and South Korea, and Japan (Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu, and «Satsunans») ( Habu 1973; Lafer 1989; Kryzhanovskij et al. 1995; Kataev 1997; Kataev et al. 2003; Moon & Paik 2006).

Remarks. Harpalus yinchuanensis was described from two specimens (the male holotype and the female paratype) collected together in Ningxia Province. According to the original description, this species is allied to H.

simplicidens but differing in having "dorsal surface of head with punctures, sternite 2 to 6 pubescent densely at middle, 2 to 5 with an elliptic shallow fovea at lateral area" ( Huang 1993). In addition, the medial lobe of aedeagus illustrated by Huang has medial spiny patch in the internal sac as opposed to that of H. simplicidens whose internal sac lacks any distinct sclerotized elements. We could study the female paratype only which is identical to H. simplicidens . This specimen has impunctate head and pubescence of abdominal sternites normal for H. simplicidens . It is obvious that the examination of the holotype of H. yinchuanensis is needed to clarify the status of this taxon.
