Hylettus hiekei Fuchs, 1970 View in CoL reinstated

Hylettus hiekei Fuchs, 1970: 111 View in CoL .

Type-locality — Ecuador (ZMHB).

Hylettus viridis Monné, 1998: 290 View in CoL , fig. 4, new synonymy. Type-locality — Colombia, Caquetá: Vegas del Caquetá (MNRJ).

Monné (1982: 102) considers erroneously Hylettus hiekei Fuchs, 1970 View in CoL a synonym of Hylettus excelsus (Bates, 1864) View in CoL . Examination of the photograph of the holotype of H. hiekei View in CoL (ZMHB) and the comparison with the holotype of Hylettus viridis Monné, 1998 View in CoL (MNRJ) allow us to propose the revalidation and the new synonymy. The species is distributed in Colombia and Equador.

Hylettus hiekei differs from H. excelsus mainly by the greenish semi translucent elytra, with large punctures in the basal half and a few in the apical half, near the suture. In H. excelsus the elytra are brownish and the punctures regular and dense throughout.

Material examined. COLOMBIA, Caquetá: Vegas del Caquetá, 1 male, 7.I.1982, O Rojas leg. ( MNRJ, holotype of Hylettus viridis ).
