Type material. Holotype male (BDN No.1455), CHINA: Guangdong Province, Fengkai County, Heishiding Natural Conversation, 20. IV. 1988, light trap, X. H. Wang. Paratypes: 1 male (BDN No. 03406), Gansu Province, Tianshui City, Dangchuan Town, 1450 m, 8. VIII. 1993, light trap, W. J. Bu. 1 male (BDN No.1602), CHINA: Guangxi Autonomous Region, Longsheng County, Sanmen Town, 27. V. 1990, light trap, X. H. Wang. 1 male (BDN No.1591), Guangxi Autonomous Region, Jinxiu County, Luoxiang Town, Daleng village, 7. VI. 1990, sweep net X. H. Wang. 1 male (BDN No.08119), Xizang Autonomous Region, Zayü County, 27. VI. 1988, light trap, C. Y. Deng.
Etymology. The species name is from the Latin bractea , scale, referring to the tibiae of the front legs with two large scalelike setae.
Male imago (n = 5)
Dimensions. Total length 2.23–2.80, 2.56 mm. Wing length 1.42–1.90, 1.65 mm. Total length/wing length 1.45–1.70, 1.55.
Coloration. Head brown. Antenna brown. Thorax dark brown with darker vittae. Abdomen brown. Hypopygium dark brown. Wing without makings.
Head. AR 0.74–1.16, 0.99. Temporal setae uniserial 10–14, 12; including 8–12, 11 verticals and 1–2, 2 postorbitals. Clypeus with 14–26, 19 setae. Palpomere 1–5 lengths (µm): 25–35, 30; 40–78, 57; 115–198, 156; 125–185, 160; 213–310, 264.
Wing ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). VR 0.88–0.97, 0.93. Brachiolum with 3–7, 5 long setae. Squama with 9–12, 12 setae. Anal lobe obtuse.
Thorax. Antepronotal setae 2–3, 2. Dorsocentrals 13–23, 18; acrostichals 13–26, 21; prealars 5–8, 6; Scutellars 9–13, 11.
Legs. Spur on fore tibia 23–30, 28 µm long with 3 lateral teeth. Spurs on mid tibia 23–30, 28 µm and 28–43, 36 µm long, with 3 lateral teeth ( Fig. 2 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Spurs on hind tibia 18–35, 28 µm and 33–55, 45 µm long, with 3 lateral teeth. Tibiae of front legs with 2 large apical spatulate scalelike setae ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Tibial comb on hind leg of 7 setae ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Length (µm) and proportions of legs as in Table 1 View TABLE 1 . Hypopygium ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ). Tergite IX with a row of 8–10, 10 setae. Anterior end of sternapodeme with transverse connection 8–23, 13 µm long. Gonocoxite 125–205, 153 µm long. Length of gonocoxite/width of gonocoxite 1.77–1.98 1.85. Gonostylus 83–125, 102 µm long, slender, and slightly curved. HR 1.45–1.54, 1.50. HV 2.24–2.66, 2.5.
Female, pupa, and larva. Unknown.
Distribution. The species has been found in both Oriental (Guangdong Province, Guangxi Province, and Xizang Autonomous Region) and Palaearctic (Gansu Province) China.
Diagnosis. This new species can be separated from other known species of the genus by having two large spatulate, scalelike setae on the apex of the fore tibiae ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 5 ).
